Fing is private by default.
- No account, app telemetry, or app analytics.
- Speech is transcribed locally with Whisper. Your audio and transcripts never leave your device.
- Your microphone is on only while you hold the hotkey or run the mic test.
- Transcript history stays on your device, is deleted after 30 days, and can be turned off.
- The website uses basic, cookie-free analytics.

What Stays on Your Device
Audio
For dictation, your microphone is on only while you hold the hotkey. Fing also uses it when you run the microphone test. Audio is transcribed locally with Whisper and is never uploaded: not to us, not to a cloud transcription service, and not to any third-party API. Raw audio is not saved.
Transcripts
Fing types the text into the active app without using your clipboard. If transcript history is on, which is the default, transcripts are stored locally so you can search and reuse them, and each one is deleted after 30 days. You can turn history off during setup or in settings.
Settings and Logs
Your settings (such as hotkey, language, model, and appearance) and custom dictionary terms are stored only on your device. Fing keeps no logs.
Network Connections
Fing never uses the network for transcription, telemetry, analytics, or advertising. It connects only for:
- Model downloads. Speech models are downloaded from Hugging Face during setup or when you choose a new model.
- Updates on macOS, and on Windows if you used the installer from GitHub. Fing checks GitHub Releases for updates automatically and whenever you check manually.
- Updates from the Microsoft Store. If you installed Fing from the Microsoft Store, the Store delivers updates and Fing never checks GitHub.
Hugging Face, GitHub, and Microsoft may receive standard technical information such as your IP address and user agent, which they handle under their own privacy policies.
Website
Cloudflare hosts this website and processes standard server logs, such as IP address and browser type, for security and delivery. We use Glance, an open-source, self-hosted analytics tool, for basic visitor statistics. It sets no cookies and does not store IP addresses. There are no ad trackers, session replays, or marketing pixels.
What We Don't Collect or Share
We never receive your audio, transcripts, keystrokes, clipboard contents, dictionary terms, or settings. We don't collect app telemetry, usage analytics, advertising IDs, location, or payment information, and Fing has no accounts. We do not sell personal information.
Legal Basis
Where the GDPR or similar laws apply, we rely on legitimate interests to run and secure the website, measure basic website usage, and deliver app updates.
Data Retention
App data stays on your device until you delete it, and transcript history is deleted automatically after 30 days. Website logs and analytics are kept only for a limited period.
Your Rights and Choices
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete, or restrict the use of your personal information. Because your app data never reaches us, you control it directly: clear or turn off transcript history, delete dictionary terms, or uninstall Fing and remove its app data. For anything else, email contact@getfing.com.
Children
Fing is not directed to children under 13, or the minimum age required in your country, and we do not knowingly collect their personal information.
Changes
If we make material changes to this policy, we will update the effective date and publish the new version on this page.
